“An electric handbike, adjustable in size, custom-built for the French Para-Cycling Federation in Tarbes.”
Masterwork incoming!
Nils Wendling worked as a metal fabricator at Milc during his fifth and final year as a “Compagnon du Devoir” (French community of craftsmen). Since September 2024, he has been working on his project, which will complete and end his journey : the famous Compagnon du Devoir masterwork.
Nils chose to create a versatile, electric handbike.
In his technical specifications, Nils aimed to make a custom-built bike for the French Para-Cycling Federation in Tarbes, adjustable to all types of disabilities and disciplines.
He explains that this vehicle is adjustable in size (from 1,55 to 1,95 meter – 5.1 to 6.4 ft), with an electric assistance so that hand cycling (pedalling but with hands) requires as little effort as possible.
It took him 900 hours to complete this project :
- 400 hours for the design part,
- 500 hours for manufacturing.
Milc and Antidote Solutions provided real support throughout the project, and he benefited from their expertise in geometry, welding techniques and offering full access to materials and equipment in the factory.
The result is spectacular : a bi-material handbike, made of aluminium (for the rear section) and steel (for the front section). A genuine technical achievement, acclaimed by the whole Fler group for its outstanding quality, meticulous craftsmanship, and refined design.
Special mention to Victoire Cycle and Greentech Europe, who donated some components.
The entire Fler team wishes him all the best for his professional career and hopes to see him again on the roads of the Pyrenees, and perhaps in the cycling industry.
